Simple strategies for Self Managed Super Funds

Hello to all current and future SMSF Trustees

My husband and I started our own self-managed super fund in March 2007 because we wanted to take more control of managing our investments. Like most people, our fund was started through our accountant. After helping us with the paperwork (trust deed, ABN registration, accounting and auditing etc) we found we were on our own to do the most important activity, which is to invest and grow the funds under our management. Our fund started with around $100K and though it may be a small amount to most fund managers, it was a large sum to us and it was a little scary to have complete responsibility for managing it. We looked for people to help us but most people we spoke to seemed more keen to sell us managed funds or have us pay them to manage our funds for us. To me, this kind of defeats the purpose of having a DIY fund. We decided to proceed with our own investment strategy doing what we understand and feel comfortable with.  After 2 years we think we have had good success and feel that perhaps it is time we share what has worked for us with other SMSF trustees who are looking for good simple commonsensical strategies that are low risk and easy to apply. In return we hope to find other experienced trustees who are happy to share their success with us.

We plan to update this blog frequently with information that would be of interest to SMSF Trustees and other Stock Investors. If you like to stay updated with the latest posts, you can subscribe by Email or by RSS feed.
