About SLI Superannuation Fund
Content on this blog is produced by Kingsley and Christina McDonald, the trustees of SLI Superannuation Fund (SLI Super), one of the growing number of Self Managed Superannuation Funds (or SMSF) in Australia. SLI is an abbreviation for Strategic Life Investments. We started our own SMSF because we wanted more control and visibility of our own super investments. Neither of us are financial professionals but both have taken the time to get ourselves financially educated. In 2005, Christina took a year off work to learn about stocks and options and is currently the Chief Investment Officer for the fund. In 2011 Christina completed her Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and has started her own financial consultancy and options training business. Kingsley still works full-time in the IT industry and his main role is to keep the new super contributions coming in.
Since the fund’s inception in March 2007, SLI Super has been through some of the toughest years in the stock market and has managed to generate better returns than most of the professionally managed Super funds. We believe in investing using strategies that we understand and are comfortable with. We mainly invest in the US and Australian equity markets and use exchange traded options to protect our stocks and to generate additional income. We also plan to invest in property in the future.
